Alfred Developer is very responsive

As I posted recently, I’ve moved from Google Quick Search Box for Mac to Alfred (get a free trial on the Mac app store or the PowerPack enabled version at http://www.alfredapp.com/). While I enjoy Alfred very much, there was a feature I had been missing from QSB.

I decided to share this with the Alfred team at the GetSatisfaction web site. Within an hour I received a reply from Andrew, the lead developer, and found that the feature was already being coded into the next release (.90). Now that's service. Nice job Andrew and thanks for being so responsive to your users! Full-disclosure time, I purchased the Mega Supporter License which provide free lifetime support. I highly recommend this Doc’s Tech Notes Mac readers. Even though Alfred is in beta, it is still the most stable launcher for the Mac I have used. And rumor has it that the price will increase when the app is out of beta. Are you an Alfred user? Drop me a comment and let me know. Fix Netflix error code 8156-6013 on a Mac

My new 11’ MacBook Air was having problems streaming Netflix video this evening. Every time I tried to stream a video, I would receive a Netflix error code 8156-6013 followed by a “call technical support” message. It also stated that this was usually the result of migrating system settings from another Mac.

Boy, they nailed that one. I had in fact used the Migration Assistant to setup my new MacBook Air by importing an account from my MacBook Pro. The error message then suggested that I contact their technical support team. Me? Wait on the phone? I think not. I'll figure this one out myself. Click below to read how to fix this error without calling the Netflix Technical support team. Not that they are bad people mind you.

Quick Search Box (QSB) is D-E-A-D...

Or rather in maintenance mode per this message from the QSB Google Group, but isn't that the same thing?

Hey folks...

For all intents and purposes QSB is currently in maintenance mode. Google is no longer funding it's development, so the team that was working on QSB are all now working on different projects within Google (mostly Chrome). I check in occasionally to the mailing list when I have time, but have been very busy on Chrome development. I will try and do better at checking in, and if somebody would like to take the reins, I am more than happy to pass them over.

Since QSB is open source, there is a chance that someone may take the reins and continue the project. I'm not getting my hopes up and have an admission I can now make; Alfred is my new launcher and has been since I saw the writing on the wall for QSB about three months ago.

If you are looking for an outstanding replacement, grab the free version of Alfred in the Mac App Store. If you like it as much as I do, I'm betting you will want to purchase the PowerPack to add even more features. So, anyone sorry for this loss? Anyone else using Alfred?
