Lion updated to 10.7.1 – fixes annoying HDMI issue

In a recent post, I proclaimed that Lion was the perfect OS for a Mac mini Media Center (MmMC). Today apple fixes an annoying audio issue that relates to the HDMI audio:
Resolves an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out.
I recently observed this issue while running Plex on my MmMC and I attributed this bug to Plex, not the OS. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure it out. My short term fix was a reboot – very inconvenient. Turns out this was a Lion bug! Who’d a thunk it. So if you are running your own MmMC, visit  | Software Update... to get the latest update for Lion and apply the fix.

2 additions to this Tech Note.:

  1. I am thinking about buying a new mac mini to use to hook up to my 46" Sharp HDTV in my living room. I wanted to ask you if you've been able to stream netflix well with your setup. My sony playstation does a great job streaming netflix and I don't want to take a step backward.

    Thanks!

  2. @godogs. I'll be posting more later, but to quickly answer your question, I find Plex to be the best tool for streaming Netflix on the Mac mini Media Center. A quirk though is that sometimes items in my queue do not appear, on those rare occasions I fire up Chrome using the Netflix app and stream from the browser. As for streaming quality, they are both very good.
