Quick Search Box (QSB) is D-E-A-D...

Or rather in maintenance mode per this message from the QSB Google Group, but isn't that the same thing?

Hey folks...

For all intents and purposes QSB is currently in maintenance mode. Google is no longer funding it's development, so the team that was working on QSB are all now working on different projects within Google (mostly Chrome). I check in occasionally to the mailing list when I have time, but have been very busy on Chrome development. I will try and do better at checking in, and if somebody would like to take the reins, I am more than happy to pass them over.

Sorry for the news...
Cheers,
Dave
Since QSB is open source, there is a chance that someone may take the reins and continue the project. I'm not getting my hopes up and have an admission I can now make; Alfred is my new launcher and has been since I saw the writing on the wall for QSB about three months ago.

If you are looking for an outstanding replacement, grab the free version of Alfred in the Mac App Store. If you like it as much as I do, I'm betting you will want to purchase the PowerPack to add even more features. So, anyone sorry for this loss? Anyone else using Alfred? Drop a comment and let me know. Still using QSB? Be sure to check out my tips and tricks.

  1. Hi, switched to Alfred following your tip. Love the improved performance - I find it much quicker than QSB. Plus, QSB integration with GMail hasn't worked for ages - fingers crossed Alfred will build in that support. I expect Alfred will continue upwards & onwards since it's underpinned by a commercial 'pro account' model. Me? I've already gone down the 'mega supporter' route.

I look forward to some Alfred Tips & Tricks from you in the future. Keep up the good work...

  2. Ian,

Thanks so much for the kind encouragement. So glad you like Alfred. I too am a Mega Supporter. It just seemed the way to go to ensure I always have the latest features. I like your idea about Alfred tips and tricks. I'll have to give that some thought.

    Thanks for reading!
