Doc’s Tech Notes is beginning to archive a bit of content and readers may be faced with some real issues trying to find an interesting or useful tip that they’ve read in the past. In order to help you find what you are looking for, I’ve hired a Tech Notes Genius. You simply step up to the bar, ask your question and the Genius provides you the answer.
Okay...so I really didn’t hire an Genius (none around here) and there isn’t a bar. How about a handy dandy Google Search box instead? If you look on the left side of the blog page, under the Follow Doc box (where you can subscribe to the RSS feed), you’ll find the new Search the Notes box. Simply insert your query and Google will present you with the information you are looking for. Go ahead. Visit http://www.docstechnotes.com now (unless you are reading post on the blog) and give it a shot. I recommend the following search strings:
“os x” or “linux”
I’m always looking for ways to make Doc’s Tech Notes better. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you would like to see. You can even recommend posts.
Fun and useful tech tips, tricks, news and editorials for regular people -- and geeks too!

IKEA. Now Mac Compatible.
On our companion site, Give Us one Minute, we published a bit about the new IKEA Home Planner now being compatible with Macs. I thought Doc’s Tech Notes readers might also be interested. If you are an IKEA and a Mac fan, read more by hitting the link below.

Capture Flash video without an extension in Safari
Apple just released an update to Safari (5.0.1) that finally turns on extensions as a feature and catches the browser up to the likes of FireFox and Chrome. They’ve even released a handy dandy extensions gallery. However, before you go looking for an extension to allow you to download Flash video, why don’t you explore some of the built in capabilities of Safari on the Mac.
For instance, one evening I was sharing a YouTube video with my daughter and it stuttered a bit due to bandwidth issues. It was annoying. I told her I would just download it and she could watch it without interruption when it had finished. She was surprised that I was able to do this without any magical ninja browser extensions. I assumed everyone knew how to do this with Safari. Guess not, so after the click, behold the magic that is the Safari Activity window!
