Goodbye expensive iPhone 1st gen. Hello money saving Nokia E63!

I’m not feelin’ the love for my first generation iPhone anymore. Don’t get me wrong, It’s been a great phone for the past three years and we’ve had some fun times; however, now there is a new device in my life that provides a much better mobile Internet experience. That device is, of course, the iPad (as demonstrated by several of my most recent posts). It was time to replace the iPhone with another phone. So what lead me from the iPhone to a shiny new Nokia E63? Click the link below and I’ll be happy to share the technical and financial reasons this phone was the perfect replacement for this budget conscious gadget freak.

New Site Pages Live. And they’re scary folks!

Blogger recently implemented the ability to add up to 10 static pages to a blog. So I took some time to add some personality and provide you, the reader, with additional information about me, the Doc.

You’ll also find some info about the blog and what type of content I choose to write about. So take a look at the top of the page and search for the new gold and black menu-bar (as shown in the image). The following pages are now available:
  • da Blog (link to the blog main page…use it to return after visiting the other pages)
  • About da Blog (learn about what you’ll find on the blog)
  • About Doc (learn about the blogger)
  • $$$ Doc (mystery link…kind of like mystery meat without the foul smell)
So take a chance. Click the links above, or if you are reading via RSS, visit Doc’s Tech Notes now and see what’s been added. Great for those nights where insomnia has set in. As always, feel free to drop a comment about these pages. You can also drop a comment and provide suggestions for additional pages. And for those of you following along the past week, this post has not mentioned the iPad once. Doh!

Purchased an iPad? What’s a new user to do?

Okay, I’ve had the iPad for over a week now and I am finally ready to share some tech notes for current and would be owners of the “magical” device (Hey, I didn’t come up with that Apple marketing smoke and mirrors slogan). While the iPad isn’t quite “magical” in my book, it is a great device; however, new users may feel a bit daunted getting the thing configured for first time use.

So what I’ve done is prepared a list of some introductory steps you might want to consider before actually using the iPad for the first time. In a future post I’ll add to the notes by sharing some must install free apps. Ready? Hit the click below to begin reading.

It keeps going, and going and going...

Here we are. Around 26 hours since arriving and my iPad battery still has a 23% charge. Keep in mind that this is with Wi-Fi only. More on 3G use later. That is phenomenal people! And I’m sure my friends, and especially my wife can attest. It hasn’t gotten much of a break during that period.

I can’t remember the last time I used a battery-operated consumer device without worrying if the battery was going to fizzle right in the middle of some important task (not that God Finger is important mind you, but you get my jest). Not so with the iPad, never once was I worried that this thing would die while tending to the care and feeding of my little world and its inhabitants. Or while doing important stuff too, like e-mail and Facebook!

I’ll probably empty the battery this evening and the iPad will need its second charge. As my use tapers (if it tapers), I can easy see this thing not needing charged for four or five days. Take that Energizer Bunny!
