First post from iPad

This is it. I'll reserve any judgement and review of this awesome piece of tech until later. :) For now, I have apps to download and review. Lots of 'em.

And if you are following my iPad Wi-Fi + 3G journey

Below are some first pics from my un-boxing and the first connection to the iMac. Much more to come over the weekend so keep that RSS Feed Reader fired up or visit the iPad section of Doc’s Tech Notes often for regular updates.

At the moment I am still waiting on the iPad to sync/activate. It’s been about 22 minutes now. I have lots of music/movies/apps/photos that need to be transferred and I can tell that the USB 2.0 transfer is choking on all this data. It may be hours before I actually get to try this thing out. Have questions? Just drop them into the comments section below.

iPad Wi-Fi + 3G has arrived

I came home for lunch today and found that the signed authorization for delivery I placed on the front door had been replaced with a smallish cardboard package -- but I must admit, I was expecting this since I’ve been tracking the package since yesterday.

The Fed Ex delivery person was nice enough to place it between my screen door and the front door to protect it from the elements. Unfortunately, I have no time to open the package at the moment. On top of that, I want to take some pics. So...more later.

Doc’s just a day away from his new iPad!

Yes readers. Finally. Finally. After being taunted and tormented by iPad Wi-Fi demos from good friend Mark, I finally received confirmation that my iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will be arriving tomorrow. The wait is finally over. So this weekend, all Doc’s Tech Notes readers know what I’ll be doing; un-boxing, configuring, syncing and selecting apps.

I have already received the Apple case and the VGA adapter. They’ve been sitting here lonely for about a week now. Time to put the trio together. In the meantime, if you have an app recommendations for me, leave a comment and let me know. If there’s something you want to know about the 3G version, feel free to leave those questions in the comments too. I’ll be happy to reply. As my wife always tells me, “you think every day is Christmas!” Aren’t they?

Awesome, yet very painful, iPad tear down video

Love your iPad? Don’t watch this video. It is a systematic tear down, albeit with a very humorous and fun sound track. If you’ve wondered what is inside the little marvel that is the iPad, or how to tear the thing apart, this video from Tech Restore is for you. Enjoy!

iPad 3G is Pre-Ordered!

Readers may be wondering why I haven’t begun writing about the iPad. Heck, I’ve even had friends contact me, assuming I had an iPad in hand on day one, asking “how are you enjoying the new iPad?” Well, the iPad Wi-Fi just wouldn’t do for me. And even though I had an extensive demo from my buddy Mark (big thanks for the hands-on with the device!), I had to hold out for the iPad 3G. Why you ask? Read more after the break.

Not using Google Docs? Now’s the time to give it whirl!

As Doc’s Tech Notes readers know, I am a HUGE fan of Google Docs and today Google released what I would consider to be a relatively huge upgrade to their suite of online productivity apps. Some of the new features include:
  • Rulers in word-processing
  • Better image placement tools
  • Enhanced real-time collaborative tools in all apps
  • Speed and responsiveness improvements to all apps
  • Additional spreadsheet tools
  • A new drawing app with collaboration features!
Wanna read more about the improvements? Click here. I’ve also included an official Google video after the click describing the features visually. Also after the click, you’ll find instructions on how to enable these new features.

Configure iChat to communicate with your Facebook buddies

Rarely do I repost items since I enjoy writing original posts; however, this post from Matt over at OS X Tips provides a good synopsis of the process to connect iChat to your Facebook chat. A tip that is right in line with the Doc’s Tech Notes theme. So bounce on over to Matt’s original post and start using iChat to discuss your Farmville and Mafia Wars achievements with your old high school buddies.

And thanks to all of you for hangin’ in there with Doc’s Tech Notes. I have several posts I hope to get online soon, so keep subscribed and/or visiting the site. I’m still here. I’m just a bit busy. Oh...and feel free to send your tips this way. If you have a well written tip or trick you want to share with Doc’s Tech Notes readers, I’d be happy to review and potentially post; of course giving you full credit. You can send your submissions to:

steven@doctechnotes.com

I’ll review and let you know if you make the cut. Not sure if your submission will make the cut? Review the Archives and you’ll notice a theme. Hey...anything you have is probably better than the stuff I throw out there! :D
