It’s Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade time!

Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook RemixUbuntu 9.10 was just released and I’m sure many Doc’s Tech Notes readers are eager to update their desktop, laptop or netbook – as is Doc! Need to know more about this update before installing? Click here.

Doc’s here to make things easy and today I’ll provide the steps necessary to accomplish an upgrade, on a current Ubuntu 9.04 install, with just a few clicks of the mouse. I'll also share the method using a single Terminal command. No need to wade through that whole “download the .iso and burn to cd or install on USB” hassle!

Read the complete Tech Notes step-by-step guide after the click.
:: Ensure you are connected to the Internet
:: From the Gnome menu, select System|Administration|Update Manager
:: Click the Check button to search for updates to the current installation
:: Install all updates
:: Click the Check button again – a new release message will appear
:: Follow the on-screen instructions to begin installing Ubuntu 9.10
:: Walk away as the process will take some time – my installation took over an hour 2 hours on an Acer Aspire One with SSD.
:: When prompted, reboot
Looking to accomplish the same thing and a Terminal type of person? Enter the following at the Terminal prompt and just follow the prompts (this is Doc's preferred method):

do-release-upgrade -d
The Ubuntu development team sure makes the upgrade process easy. Can’t do that on a Windoze machine...or even a Mac for that matter. Have another Ubuntu 9.10 install tip or want to share your Ubuntu upgrade experiences? Leave a comment.
