Are you ready for Snow Leopard?

Apple is going to release the next version of OS X Snow Leopard in just a couple of days. With this new release comes many changes to the OS to enhance speed and slim down the install foot print. Your hard drive will regain around 7Gb! Well, those back-end changes will cause some compatibility issues with existing software. To prepare, Doc is recommending that you visit the following site:

http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/start

This wiki lists popular software's functionality, non-functionality, and functionality with caveats. Before upgrading, take a look at the list and ensure your MUST HAVE app(s) are operational. Snow Leopard will also be protecting you from incompatibilities. Here's what the Apple web site states will happen during installation.

The installation process is up to 50 percent faster and more reliable than ever. It checks all your applications and sets aside programs known to be incompatible.

That's all well and good, but I would hate to find that an app I MUST HAVE "set aside." Alright, I have to get back to checking compatibility of my 100 or so apps before my copy of Snow Leopard arrives.

UPDATE: MacWorld has also created a compatibility wiki:  http://wiki.macworld.com/index.php/Snow_Leopard_Compatibility

UPDATE2: Here's Apple’s offical compatibility page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
Have another Snow Leopard preparation tip? How are you preparing for the upgrade? Add a comment and add to the notes.

  2. One more day! Just hours away for most. I'm still holding out hope that Amazon will deliver to my home on release day, but no message in my inbox this morning saying it has shipped. Bummer.
